Along with your sidekick Sausage, you are charged to sort this whole mess out.

  • Create a fully customizable cat by choosing colours, shapes, and patterns
  • Collect costume items to make your cat cuter — and unlock powerful techniques
  • Take your cat into battle against dogs, pigeons, and other fearsome creatures
  • Become friends with other cats of varying degrees of helpfulness!
  • Take on exciting quests!

Explore the Whisker Woods and defeat the dogs — for the glory of the Cat Kingdom!

Catlandia is developed by a small team of independent developers as a passion project. We love cats, and wanted to create an opportunity for you to be a cat yourself. We also think there's an audience for games you don't have to play forever — by design, we created Catlandia as an experience that can be picked up, enjoyed, and finished without a huge investment of time — yet allow it to fit within a larger narrative. We're excited to share this first peak into Catlandia with the Itch community.

This version of Catlandia includes the free Trouble at The Tall House update — a story expansion that lets your cats explore new areas, fight new bosses, and find more costumes!

This game was super cute (also extra points for being able to make chonker cats!)

(1 edit)

Gosh dang, this was cute. Perfect respite after a horrid week!

Heya, just wanted to stop by and say that the game is awesome and I've featured it on my TikTok channel because more people needed to see that an RPG where you play as a cat exists lol. Also, I love the fact that you can play as a sarcastic cat too, that's the best. https://www.tiktok.com/@dailygamebytes/video/7074405271279422766?is_from_webapp=...

Pls add support for windowed mode, or resolution settings.

Yeah it runs but it is clearly wanting some weird resolution or something I don't have... hud is the wrong size on combat, and sometimes it might cover enemies to a point I can't win, I had to restart the first dog fight multiple times until I accidentally ended up with the cats on the right side, and was able to target both dogs. Also, the notes menu doesn't fit my screen, nor do the notes.

Thanks for the feedback. We've moved on from active development here, but a final bug fix is not out of the question. We will take this into account if we're able to do that.

Is there a way to change the resolution? it seems too huge on my screen, and without windowed mode or resizing I can't really change it

Hi! I'm afraid not, unfortunately. Sorry!

This game is so cute and I've been really enjoying it. I ran into an unfortunate bug, though, and I can't make progress because of it. I'm in the Barkplug fight and suddenly Nugget can't attack-- clicking on Barkplug does nothing. No attacks/mewgic/items can hit him. I've tried quitting the game a couple times now but the bug persists. Any help would be appreciated!

Ah, sorry to hear that! This isn't something we've previously heard of, so it might be difficult to reproduce and solve.

Could you let me know if this is the same with all enemies after you first encountered it, or just Barkplug?

And is it just Nugget (if you're not sure, you could try a healing item of buffing ability to get to Sausage — it would also be useful to know if this works as well).

Also, does the marker appear on Barkplug like it does with the previous enemies, or do you not see that either?

We finished work on this quite some time ago, but we can try to reproduce on our end.

Thank you for the quick reply! This only happened with Barkplug, and I wasn't able to proceed through the battle in order to see if it affected other enemies. It used to only affect Nugget but the last time I tried, it also affected Sausage. The healing items/mewgic still work; I just can't use any offensive attacks/items.

I still see the marker (image attached). There's also a weird bug where I can talk to Coriander during the fight somehow, but then her text gets stuck on the screen (image attached).

The only other thing I can think of is maybe I tried this fight too early? I haven't gotten the tire yet, but saw this area was accessible anyway and decided to give it a go. I thought maybe this was the first fight and then there'd be another when I have the special item.

Thank you again for your prompt reply! Y'all have done great work. This game is so cute, and I hope I can finish it. <3

Thanks for the response! The tire is an optional quest so that shouldn't affect this. Thanks for the extra info on Coriander. We will see if we can find the problem and will let you know here if we do, but I can't give an estimated timeline, unfortunately.

I appreciate it, thank you!

It's possible that there's a chance that something is generating invisibly over the targeting area for Barkplug. Hopefully this is what's happening because if so, we can fix that. In the meantime, you may be able to progress if you try to click around a specific area like so. It seems to be a little unpredictable and tricky to hit, but if you were able to, that would confirm what the issue is at least!

Just finished it yesterday ^.^ Defeated Jack Hammer at level 10 and it felt satisfying B|
Are there any more content updates (like the tall building one) or sequels planned for the future?

I like the overall vibes and the bosses were really cool, but it kinda felt like there was a ton of hats, costumes and collars, but barely any charms. And a map menu would be a nice addition. Maybe something with a world map, an option to view the maps of other locations you've already visited and/or to leave markers on the map.

Hi! Glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback. We're done with development on this particular release, but a sequel is not out of the question! We'll definitely announce any news about anything like that here on itch!

I'm loving the game so far, i wish there was a way to see maps of areas you aren't currently in though, i missed a set of planks and its so hard to double check that ive touched every area.

Hi I'm playing on mac and the mission 'Shifty Gary's secret weapon will not move to completed quests. Instead I keep getting repeat of the rubber armor, and Gary continues to be a question mark on the map.

I'm also just trying to figure out if I've actually completed the game. Will anything in the game occur to let me know that I've done so? The most recent main story quest I've gotten is 'Maintain peace'.

Hi! We will certainly look into that bug, as obtaining the Rubber Armor should finish that quest.

You have finished the game at this point. A special animation plays before Maintain Peace is set, which will always display as active just to invite you to explore.

On October 29, we'll actually be dropping a free update that will continue the story beyond Maintain Peace, so check back then!

I couldn't find functionality to change the game settings. I prefer not to play fullscreen, and the music was so loud I had to remove my headphones and could find no option to change it. It looks so cute, I'd like to try it!

Hey there! If you open the menu by holding a click on the player cat for a second and releasing, you can then click the Gear icon to change some settings. We do have a master volume slider in there — but we don't have a windowed option. We can certainly add a windowed mode as a feature we'll look at for an upcoming update!

Thanks! I was having trouble finding the setting information.

Upon fresh download, pressing either 'new' or 'resume' game opens several menus and then crashes the game. Is there a fix for this?

Hey! This is the first we've heard of this issue, but we'd love to fix it for you. Could you let me know if it's Windows or Mac? Does it happen every time? Has it ever worked for you in the past, or is this the first time you've downloaded it? And would you be able to provide a screenshot?

Thank you!

Hey there! First off I'd like to apologize. My girlfriend was using my account to play and this was posted by her before I was able to resolve the issue. The issue was on our end. We had a Pro Controller plugged in which has given us issues in other games before where it would rapidly press a certain button without even touching it. The game closing was a result of this. The game didn't crash, it just rapidly opened menus and closed due to this bug on our end. I am deeply sorry for possibly having wasted your time. The game is amazing and she enjoys it thoroughly!

Awesome! Glad it works!

Hi there, I beat the game - very cute, took about four hours total. There were some glitches I noticed: choosing to return to bed from the menu makes me unable to talk to any of the cats, purchase from store, or go to sleep. I have to leave that area of the map (exit to forest) and re-enter for it to work. Also at some of the notes and "key" items re-appear when I  re enter a map, so now I have an extra rope and tire in my inventory :) - nothing that made the game unplayable, but I thought I would point it out.

Also, if anyone is reading this knows the locations of these two notes, they are the only ones I'm missing so I'd appreciate at least a hint on where I can find them. I swear I've been all over the map but I must be missing something.

Thank you for letting us know about those bugs! We'll correct them in a future update for sure.

I will say that the last note in the list there is actually not in the game. Looks like that listing slipped in by mistake — it's actually tied to our next update and is not yet accessible. Just wanted to let you know because I bet it's frustrating to see that entry, sorry!

The other one though? It is in the game, though it is hidden from view. It's a bit of a secret one. ;)

hmmmmm, intriguing! Thanks for the hint! I will have to explore harder for secret nooks and crannies :)

How do I save the game? I can't seem to find a save button or a keyboard shortcut for it. I'd like to move the autosave into one of the save slots so I can start a new game. (This is on Windows.)

Open the menu by holding and releasing a click on your cat. There should be a save button in the lower right corner.

What is that font used for the trailer text? So crisp and clean!

I lost the video project so I can't check for absolute certainty, but 99% sure it's Avenir Black!

Thank you!

I love the game, however, after EVERY SINGLE BATTLE, I gain NO XP, and no Shineys. I can find loot and pick it up, but that's it. Mac Books Pro OSX 10.14 please help. (PS, I also got locked up on some of the menus as well. See Below)

We'll have a fix on the battles tomorrow.

For the menus, could you confirm you're using the most recent upload, and if so, which menus you're having an issue exiting?

Thank you! Sorry that you have to wait to keep playing!

Hey, thank so much for the quick reply.

I downloaded the game around 6 PM EST last night. When I was noticing I got no XP/no loot/no shineys after a battle multiple timess, both using classic & adaptive settings, I checked back & it said the latest version was 4 hours old. So I'm pretty sure it's the newest version.

The menu issue I has happened when I found the red bow hat, and I wanted to change gear/ I put the red bow hat on Nugget, then ... nothing. I was kind of stuck in the gear screen and I couldn't get out. I could "force quit" the game, but I couldn't get out of that screen any other way.

Thank you for looking into this. From the short bit I saw of the game, I adore it!

Thanks for letting us now. This fix should now be up.

I guess we owe people a little explanation here. We've had a stable version up on Steam for a couple of months, but we've been working on one last round of updates since then before moving onto our next project. The release we put on itch was based on what we thought was a stable version in the middle of those updates based on testing on Windows and mobile, but some interesting Mac-build-only bugs had popped in at some point. This was pretty unusual, but: lesson learned!

(these updates we mentioned won't affect the game as it is now, so don't feel like you're missing out by playing now rather than waiting — but do look forward to more news!)

Thank you so much for being available and willing to fix these little mishaps. I played again tonight with the new version you mentioned, and what a difference! Everything seems to be working, menus work fine and Nugget and Sausage are now getting XP/ shineys after a fight. Fantastic game,  I love it!

Good to hear and glad you're enjoying it!

In case any other Mac users encountered the menu bugs, we've discovered the source of the issue and will have a fix up soon!

Yay! Thank you!

The fix is up!

After opening any menu, interacting with any object, or talking to any character, my cat loses the ability to move. He just stands there completely stuck. I can only make progress by force quitting the game and starting at the last autosave. I also get permanently stuck in the item menu with no apparent way to close it. And weirdest of all, just after the tutorial, a duplicate cat without legs appeared and both are stuck. I'm using a '16 macbook pro running 10.15.5, using the downloaded posted yesterday. Help!

Thanks for these bug reports. We'll look into them ASAP!

When I read a note and then close the menu, I can't move... The same thing happens when I exit a battle; I can see the cats on the screen like I was still fighting, but I can also see my normal avatar. I can click myself and use the menu, and it works again if I save and quit, then go back. It's just annoying to have to go back to the main menu every time. Help! I'm on a mac, by the way.

Thanks for letting us know. We'll check these out and post a fix.

The fix is now posted.

Adorable, also, there's a demo for the Android version but I can't download the Android version, is the APK not available for it?

Hi! We had that demo version up long ago during development, but I don't see why we can't supply the finished game for Android here too. It will just take us a little time to make some adjustments, but I'll respond here when it's available.

Cool I'm also looking forward for this version! Thanks!

Hey, anything new on this? It's been, like, three months, and the apk's still not there...

Sorry about the wait! We've been working on a large content update and will share the apk when that's done. Our target is a few weeks away now.

Thank you for including Catlandia in the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality! Cuteness overload and ginger cats :)

Umm, why when I open the game, it stops and takes me to it's Steam page, despise me buying it here?

(1 edit)

Sorry, let us look into that. That should have been disabled for the Itch release. Could you confirm if that was Windows or Mac?

We've updated the file and it should be working correctly stand-alone now. Thanks for pointing that out to us!

No problem!
